DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEB DESIGN AND WEB DEVELOPMENT

WEB DESIGN VS DEVELOPMENT

Are you planning on building a website for your business? But confused about the difference between web development and web design. Do not worry! We have got your back.

Let’s explore the difference between web design and web development.

WHAT IS WEB DESIGN?

Web design primarily refers to the procedures necessary to make the section of a website that website visitors view visually appealing and easy to understand. Web designers ensure that the website has a professional appearance and that users can navigate it easily. They are sometimes called “UX” designers or user experience designers.

Type of Web Designs:

User interface (UI) design:

User Interface (UI) Design is creating visuals and illustrations and using photographic artwork and typography to improve how a digital product looks and is laid across various device views. Input controls (buttons, drop-down menus, data fields), navigational elements (search fields, slider, icons, tags), and informational features make up interface elements (progress bars, notifications, message boxes).

User Experience (UX) Design:

User experience (UX) design is the method design groups employ to produce products that offer users rich and valuable experiences. Aspects of branding, design, usability, and function are all included in UX design, which encompasses the planning of the complete process of obtaining and integrating the product.

Visual design:

By deliberately using images, colors, typefaces, and other aspects, the visual design focuses on the aesthetics of a website and the materials that go with it. The successful visual design is independent of the page’s content and purpose.

The Skills needed in Web Designing

Depending on the function and specialty of each individual, different skill sets are needed for website designers to be successful. However, in general, some crucial abilities include the following:

  • CSS and HTML expertise
  • Understanding web accessibility guidelines and website design principles
  • Interaction and responsive design
  • Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
  • Charting user journeys
  • Prototyping and wireframing
  • Typography, color theory, and branding
  • Tools and software for design

WHAT IS WEB DEVELOPMENT?

All the code that keeps a website functioning is governed by web development. Front-end and backend are the two divisions that apply to it. The code that controls how the website will display the designs that a designer has mocked up is the front-end or client-side of an application. Database data management and its delivery to the front end for display are within an application’s purview of the back end or server-side; the front-end developers’ and website designers’ roles overlap the most.

Type of Web Development:

Front-end Web Development:

The front end refers to the part of a website where users directly interact with the “client side” of the application is another name for it. It comprises all elements that users interact with directly, such as buttons, colors, and a navigation menu. Text colors and styles are also included.

The languages used for front-end development are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Front-end developers put into practice everything that appears on the browser screen when websites, web applications, or mobile apps are viewed, including their structure, design, behavior, and content. Two of the critical goals of the Front-End are responsiveness and performance. The developer must ensure that the website is responsive and displays correctly across all screen sizes.

Backend Web Development:

The server side of a website is called the backend. It also ensures that everything on the client side of the website functions appropriately while storing and organizing data. It is the portion of the website you cannot view and use. It is the part of the program where users do not directly interact with users and indirectly access the components and features created by backend designers through a front-end application.

The backend also includes tasks like writing APIs, building libraries, and interacting with system elements devoid of user interfaces or even systems of scientific programming.

Full stack Web Development:

Both front-end and back-end duties are covered by full-stack web development. Full-stack web developers are capable of creating complete websites and web applications. They work on the front end, back end, database, and debugging web applications or websites.

The Skills needed in Web-Development

As we mentioned, specific technical skill sets are necessary for web development. A web developer should have at least some familiarities with the following:

  • Languages for coding and programming, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
  • Frameworks for JavaScript, like jQuery
  • Backends and databases testing and bug fixing
  • Systems for managing content (WordPress, etc.)
  • Optimization for search engines (SEO)

Conclusion

The fuzziness about the terms “Web Design” and “Web Development” may confuse small and medium-sized companies wishing to launch a website or redesign their current one. Although some people can do both, many companies use dedicated designers who build the website layout and send the design files to a programmer who finishes the development step. That design and development are synonymous will hopefully be dispelled by the information in this essay.
